“People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that’s what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life.

A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave.

A soul mate's purpose is to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life…”

~ Elizabeth Gilbert

Among other things, this reminded me of Jess and Rory from Gilmore Girls (although I don't watch this show, my sister does and therefore I know everything there is to know anyway. -.- I believe this is what happens when you live in the same room as your sister). The description here seems to fit them exactly. Seemingly meant for each other, but somehow don't end up together? :( Why like that one. So sad. It defeats the whole meaning of soul mate! If such a thing even exists.

"the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life" I like this line. AND YES, IT DOES DESCRIBE JESS & RORY A LOT AND HOW SHE CHANGED HIM AND HE CHANGED HER EVENTUALLY TOO, AWWWW I'M SO PROUD OF YOU!!! :DDD (And oh, not changechange, but you know, brought out the full potential in you.)

But why is it too painful to live with your soul mate! Too tiring?

And see, this comment thing on each post is awesome.

too painful because someone who is your mirror is obviously one who will show you both your faults and your strengths -- and that makes for a lot of conflict, as well as growth. Even Jess and Rory 'fought' a lot right? Someone who is your mirror/soulmate challenges you constantly -- who dares to look you in the eye at who you really are. It can be tiring, I suppose.

So at the end of the day, you decide if you're up to such a challenge in life. Shaykh Hamza says: the best times of your life, when you look back, are often the toughest times. :) Do you want a soulmate or do you want it easy?

I dunno, judging her based on the movie is probably very unfair, but I found the whole Eat, Pray, Love thing just irritating.
